We are pleased to announce the upcoming Juried Art Show as part of the 2008 Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Food & Entertainment Festival. This year’s show will again be hosted by the Ellwood City Art Club and will be a three-day Festival held on July 4th, 5th and 6th. Accepted Artwork will be on display at the Trefoil Lodge in Ewing Park during the three-day event that attracts over 20,000 visitors each year. This is a great opportunity for you to display your talent in art for many to view.
We will be honored to have Dr. Louis A. Zona, as the Judge and Juror for this year’s show. Dr. Zona is the Executive Director of the Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio.
Cash awards and Ribbons will be given for the Best of Show, three (3) Distinguished Awards, and three (3) Merit Awards. A photo session will be held for all those receiving awards to be publicized in the area newspapers.
As in the past years care will be taken in handling the Artwork. However, the festival committee cannot be responsible for any accidental damage that may occur. Security officers will be on duty throughout the Festival period and a show attendant will be on hand during the show hours.
You are invited to participate in this year’s event. Keep these dates in mind and join us then. This show is open to anyone wishing to enter (no age limit). Please pass this onto friends whom we have not contacted.

About Dr. Louis Zona
Since 1981, Dr. Louis A. Zona has been Executive Director of the Butler Institute of American Art. The Butler, founded in 1919, is the first structure in the United States built specifically to house a collection of American art and ranks today as one of the nation’s most renowned museums.
Under Dr. Zona’s direction, the Butler has grown dramatically in both its physical size and in the scope and the quality of its programming. Dr. Zona has been the driving force in the expansion of the Butler’s original collection, adding to both the museum’s historic and contemporary holding’s, while acquiring significant examples of the art of minority and women artists, and undertaking the conservation of important historic works. Dr. Zona has spearheaded the museum’s efforts toward complete refurbishment of the Butler’s historic galleries, including the installation of state-of-the-art environmental controls, lighting systems, and public amenities. The museum itself has more than doubled in size under Dr. Zona’s direction, with a West Wing added, dedicated exclusively to new media including virtual galleries with programming, emphasizing new electronic art. In the spring of 2003, the Andrews addition will be completed adding expanded sculpture galleries, gift shop and museum cafe.
Dr. Zona has been a professor of Art History at Youngstown State University since 1970, and was chairman of the YSU Art Department from 1978-1982. He is the author of numerous articles on art and art history including Nassos Daphnis: Color and Form, and A Nation’s Legacy: The Mid Twentieth Century in American Art. Dr. Zona is a major contributor to the recent Abrams publication Master Paintings From The Butler Institute of American Art, a catalogue of the Butler permanent collection.
Dr. Zona is the 1996 recipient of the prestigious Gari Melchers Medal, awarded annually to Americans who have significantly contributed to this country’s culture by the Artists’ Fellowship of New York City, and serves on the board of the National Portrait Society, based in Manhattan. In 2000, The Butler Board of Trustees honored the museum’s director of twenty years by naming the new Beecher Center wing auditorium “Zona Auditorium”.
Dr. Zona is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University (Doctorate), Pittsburgh, PA, The University of Pittsburgh, (M.S. in Education), and Youngstown State University (B.S. in Education).
