ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
As a visual artist I enter into a relationship with my subject,
usually nature, and my viewer. My role is to interpret and to some
degree edit the subject while conveying my impression of the theme
to the viewer. The materials that I prefer to use in this process
are either soft pastels, crayons or oil paint.
In order to be successful in developing my interpretation of a
theme, I depend upon the use of color. If the viewer is to
experience either something similar to my impression of a subject or
develop another reaction of their own, then an understanding of
color is essential. Color and light create the mood and stir the
emotions regardless of the chosen motif.
During the editorial process, what is excluded is just as important
as what is included in each piece. I prefer to hint and suggest to
the viewer rather than explain. In the end, it is all about
communication and expression. Technique and materials are just the
means of obtaining that goal.
